RM Schindler’s Rose Harris House, 1942, Analysis completed, part 5 of 5

A few final thoughts

 Furniture

The only furniture Rose needed to buy for this house was the bed (which could have been built by Schindler for all I know) and the piano. All the other furniture is built-in, mostly of plywood. (Figures 1 and 2). The furniture shapes the space and is part of the design.

The plywood wainscot in the living room runs from the fireplace, behind the couch and dining area, then takes a Schindler notch around the kitchen pass-through. It reminds me of the front elevation.

The green roofing wrapped pop-out below the bedroom window contains a planter box and a built-in dresser for the bedroom (Fig 3).

Happy Birthday Lisa!

Cartoons for a special birthday

This year’s birthday is a big one for Lisa. Since her birthday falls between Christmas and New Year, many friends are out of town and can’t wish her well in person. I sent out a cartoon plea to friends and family to attend our “virtual birthday party” and send her birthday wishes by email, mail or phone.

The top figure is a detail, the second figure is the entire announcement.

The third figure is a single panel cartoon inspired by, and quoting exactly, something Lisa said recently about getting older.

We all get older, and its hard to say much about it that doesn’t sound trite. But a good friend always wants to make you feel better. That’s what the third card, bottom figure, is about.
