It must be love
A card and scrap buddies for my sweetie.
Happy Valentine’s Day to all.
Spring is approaching, and around this time gardeners think about fertilizing their plants. When knowledgeable gardeners think about fertilizing plants, they think of worm pee. And those lucky enough to have received a gift of it in the past think of Lisa’s Worm Pee, the champagne of fertilizers.
Lisa gets the worm pee from her worm farm. It is a plastic crate with a valve at the bottom. Vegetable scraps go in, the worms do their thing, and worm pee comes out.
Faithful readers will remember the love of 1950’s character logos that inspired my Almond Baker. This year, filled with springtime enthusiasm and silliness, I created a character logo and slogan for Lisa’s famous fertilizer. Not only does it tell you what’s in the bottle, it also answers the perennial question “How do you get the pee from the worms?”
Lisa likes bird houses as sculptures in the garden. For her recent birthday (see also Happy Birthday Lisa! cards) I thought I would make her one from my pile of wood scraps (see also Happy Anniversary! scrap people). I found a piece that was perfect for a bird’s body, so the bird house got a scrap bird. Lisa picked the bird and the bird house colors.
And where there are birds, there is a cat. Or in this case, Our Cat, intently focused on the bird.
At the bottom is a short sequence of sketches I made to work out our tuxedo cat’s face. His white chest was added in the second sketch. Angling the top of his chest, which worked with the offset eyes and ears and tied everything together, appears in the last sketch.
