Happy July 4th to my United States readers.
For Father’s Day, I drew this two page comic that tells one of my Father’s great stories – his first airplane ride. Although his first flight didn’t end so well, he did go on to get his private pilot’s license. But that’s another story – and perhaps another cartoon.

Splash Title Panel
A splash panel is a larger, more elaborately drawn comic panel. A special full-page drawing is a splash page. A splash title panel sets the stage for the story and gets the reader’s attention. My splash title panel shows a flying B-25, with the story title and an attacking American eagle as “nose art”.
Since I wanted to put my own art and name on a plane, I wanted to know what they are called. It turns out that the names and artwork painted on the the noses of war planes are called “nose art”. I love that name – it brings up so many silly images – none related to airplanes.
Happy Father’s Day to my readers, and to all the men who teach and shape us.
I have been adding little cartoons at the bottom of emails for years. I don’t know if this kind of drawing has a name, I call them typewriter cartoons.
The goal is to make a funny drawing, using only the characters on the keyboard. Part of the fun is when the familiar letters turn into a drawing.
