Nice bench…..like how it looks. So, why the two boards across the bottom? Does the second one, going at a cross angle give more strength? Huh??? Just wondering….Joyce
Joyce: You are right, the two boards give stiffness to the bench. The legs need to be braced by triangles, so they don't move around and make the bench unsteady. If you look from the side, the bench is a rectangle divided by the diagonal board to form two triangles that stiffen the legs.
