My first idea was to just put my business card on my stationery. However, I need to add my address and telephone number to the stationery. My card is meant as a gateway to my website, my stationery is meant for direct communications with an individual.
If I was going to use my card, then the darker gray box with my contact information would need to get
bigger, to make room for my address and telephone number. That meant I
would have to change the card design a little. Also, the function of a logo on stationery is different from a business card. It continues the identity, but it is secondary to the text above. It takes up only a part of a large white sheet, while my design fills the entire business card.
I came up with idea of using the business card design and “exploding” it for my stationery. The gray contact information box gets bigger and extends down and left, breaking out of
the original card. The purple rectangle is stretched to emphasize the width of the paper. And just for fun, the light gray rectangle pushes up above the card, creating a pinwheel motion. The size of the business card can be seen in the unchanged yellow rectangle and the background image.
It felt right to put it at the bottom, rather than the more traditional top-of-page location.
